Last night’s storm took down trees and branches. It also apparently did a number on the air-conditioning at the Oconee County Courthouse. The courthouse is doing business, but having to employ fans to try to stay comfortable.

Seneca resident Ryan Timmer was offered full-time employment on the spot when he graduated last week as a BMW scholar. Michelin’s option on property at Oconee’s Golden Corner Commerce Park runs through the rest of the year. There is still no word on whether the manufacturer will locate a distribution center there. But yesterday the county’s chief recruiter of economic development urged continued patience. Appearing before a county committee, Richard Blackwell said, “Good things come to those that wait.”

Today is the last day to make application to become Walhalla’s next director public works. James Moore, after 25 years with the city, retires June 30. By yesterday morning, City Administrator Nancy Goehle said four applicants had filed. Those applications are to be referred to a city council committee for review.

Clemson will undertake upgrades to drinking water and sanitary sewer utilities next week in the city’s historic Calhoun District. The work begins Tuesday and will take until the end of next month.
