The Oconee County unemployment rate and claims filed in December inched up to 5.4% from November’s 5.2.  However, figures provided today from the Department of Employment and Workforce, showed a near 300 increase in the number of Oconeeans in the workforce.  Statewide, the jobless rate held at 5.5% in December, yet the number of people working grew by 10 thousand.  […]

The Walhalla Streetscape contractor is hoping that it can start preparations for new sidewalk on Main Street—between the blocks of Ann and Spring streets.  But, according to Hutch ‘N Son, wet dirt conditions are a problem on the grades for the new sidewalks.  Yesterday workers finished most of the curb work on the south side of Main Street.

The police in Seneca say they issued tickets this morning to both drivers involved in an accident at East South Sixth Street and Hunter Avenue.  Capt. Robert Tribble says no one required medical attention as the result of the accident at 7:45.

Like the Seneca Library, the libraries in both Walhalla and Westminster may soon acquire amenities to directly benefit handicapped patrons.  The library trustees can thank what’s described as a $150 thousand windfall, courtesy of Oconee County Council.  Automatic doors were recently installed at the Seneca Library and staff now seeks ramps and automatic doors for Walhalla and Westminster.  Trustees Chairman […]
