A fire that started on the Lake Hartwell shoreline at Fair Play consumed about three acres before fire fighters from four stations put a stop to it.  According to Charlie King, Oconee Fire Chief, the fire yesterday afternoon started on E. Lakeshore Drive.  At one point, it threatened two homes.

There is smoke in the air in parts of northern Oconee County today, and we are being told that a 400-acre controlled burn is in progress at Mountain Rest in the vicinity of Cherry Hill Campground.  The smoke apparently can be seen from a wide area–including Tamassee and the Lake Keowee area.

  A Clemson man will take on the responsibility later this month of a newly-created and important Oconee County government job.  He’s Chris Eleazer, and the job is that of assistant director of the Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority.  The sewer commissioners met Eleazer last night, after a committee of three had considered 20 applications and had interviewed two others. Music will ring in a Westminster achievement next week when the city that draws its name from a town in England will observe its 142nd anniversary.  A birthday party for the city will take place 5:30 to 7 pm Friday, March 17 at the Westminster Music Center.  Refreshments will be served.
