Oconeean’s estate bequeathed to Thornwell Village

An Oconeean who died in 2014 left his entire estate to the Presbyterians’ Thornwell Village in Clinton.  The Oconee Probate Court has confirmed that estate of William Franklin Childress Jr. amounted to nearly $4.5 million dollars.  According to Judge Kenny Johns, the estate closed on December 31, 2016 with all assets distributed to the children’s home that the Presbyterians operate […]

Shoreline fire at Lake Hartwell

A fire that started on the Lake Hartwell shoreline at Fair Play consumed about three acres before fire fighters from four stations put a stop to it.  According to Charlie King, Oconee Fire Chief, the fire yesterday afternoon started on E. Lakeshore Drive.  At one point, it threatened two homes.

Smoke in the air in upper Oconee!

There is smoke in the air in parts of northern Oconee County today, and we are being told that a 400-acre controlled burn is in progress at Mountain Rest in the vicinity of Cherry Hill Campground.  The smoke apparently can be seen from a wide area–including Tamassee and the Lake Keowee area.
