Categories of Oconee crime drop, but not vehicle theft

Robberies, burglaries, sexual assaults, are among the categories of crime that are decreasing across Oconee County, according to Sheriff Crenshaw’s analysis of the numbers. But there’s one area of crime that has seen an upswing. There are an increasing number of people in Oconee who display light fingers when it comes to a vehicle belonging to someone else. There were nearly 200 cases of motor vehicle theft in Oconee last year—many of them the thefts of utility trailers. The Sheriff’s Office has some ideas about how to combat this increasing crime. It is going to ask owners of tractors, lawnmowers, and utility trailers to allow the Sheriff’s Office to place tracking numbers to allow law enforcement to better able track what happens to them.
