Carolyn Cochran

Seneca, SC — Carolyn Skelton Cochran, age 99, born in Seneca in January 1923, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Christmas Eve.

 

She lived her entire life in Seneca; graduating from Seneca High School, attending Furman University during the war years, and marrying William Ray Cochran after he returned from the South Pacific. She began teaching elementary school after graduation and eventually became Principal of Southside Elementary School in Seneca. She held the position until her retirement in the 1980’s. Additionally, she was a longtime member of Seneca Baptist Church and was an avid painter and artist that thoroughly enjoyed watching wildlife in nature.

 

Mrs. Cochran is survived by her loyal niece and caretaker: Deborah Senn Darby, who will have stars in her crown for her help with Carolyn over the past several years; her youngest sister: Joyce S. Wimberly; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Mrs. Cochran was preceded in death by her parents: P.C. and Conyous Skelton; husband: W. R. Cochran; sister: Sue Skelton Senn; brothers-in-law: James D. Senn and J.J. Wimberly, III; and niece: Susan Senn Davis.

 

A graveside service will be held at Oconee Memorial Park at a later date.
