Candidates to pay qualifying fees

Absentee voting continued this afternoon at Pine Street, in advance of this Saturday’s Democratic Presidential preference vote in South Carolina. But not long after Saturday night, there will come a new set of politics played across the state. That is, the last two weeks in March when the books open for candidates to file for either the Democratic or Republican primary elections. Oconee County will have its share of offices to dangle in front of county residents for them to consider making the political plunge in 2020. Those who run should keep in mind there are filing fees, collected at the Oconee office of Registrations and Elections. At 101.7/WGOG NEWS’ request, elections director Joy Scharich went down the list. That list reveals that of the various Oconee offices to be voted this year, candidates who run for county treasurer and county auditor will pay the highest qualifying fees. Candidates for each of those offices must pay $3,022.92. The checks are to be made out to the political party of the candidate’s choice. They are then sent to the state parties.
