Candidate sets record straight when it comes to recreation

A candidate for the Westminster City Council is correcting what he says is an untruth. Bill Brockington, one of 10 candidates November 5 for the three available council seats, says there’s talk that he wants to disband the city’s recreation department. “This is untrue,” as Brockington makes clear in answer to a series of questions that the League of Women Voters has posed to the candidates. Brockington made these comments about Westminster recreation: “Herb Poole (the director) is doing an outstanding job in providing youth recreation opportunities for our children. My position is that since 80% of our youth participants live outside the city limits, the County should contribute their share of the cost of recreation….” The candidate also says he sees a need for Westminster to offer adult recreation. He would like his city to consider converting the old audio visual building on the campus of the middle school into a civic center to be used for activities for everyone.
