Whitfield retiring, deputy to run

Beverly Whitfield has decided to retire as the Oconee Clerk of Court.  Her decision comes in the 2020 political year.  Aspiring to succeed her is the deputy clerk, Lisa Burton.  A Republican, Burton has qualified to run in the June primary.  So far she has no announced opposition.  The clerk of court has charge of the courthouse and supervises the various courts there–such as Family Court and the circuit’s General Sessions and Common Pleas courts.   In spite of the virus spread, political qualifying for the primary elections in June continues until noon on Monday, March 30.
