Campsites are full at the county parks

Campsites have been taken on this July 4 week at Oconee County’s three public parks. Phil Shirley, director of county parks, recreation and tourism, says the weather has cooperated and you can expect the campers at the parks on Lake Keowee to be in place tonight for fireworks that’ll be seen in the sky along the lake and at other spots in Oconee, such as the municipalities of Seneca, Walhalla and Salem. Fireworks will be set off by a professional at dark during tonight’s Walhalla Independence Eve celebration that is centered at the soccer field, one block off Main Street downtown. While pleasing to the eye, fireworks can be harmful. DHEC urges everyone to be careful. If you happen to be handling fireworks, use extreme caution. The most common fireworks-related injuries in South Carolina are burns and open wounds to the hands, legs, and eyes. DHEC’s best advice is to leave fireworks displays to trained professionals.
