Camp fire restrictions lifted

Camp fire restrictions have been lifted inside four ranger districts inside the state’s national forests, including the Sumter National Forest in Oconee County.  The Forest Service announced the lifting of the camp fire ban with the expectation that, for the next month, there will be above normal rainfall.  But in allowing camp fires in the national forests, all campers are urged to follow public health and safety guidelines.  If you are sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, avoid visiting the forest.  If an area is crowded, look for a less occupied location or return later.  Be cautious and choose low-risk activities to avoid injury.  Search and rescue operations could be delayed because of limits on available resources.
