Buses to be built for the route to Tech campus

Two new electric buses to expand service in Oconee go “on line” this summer—which means that bus maker Proterra is to start to build the two buses in August. Which means the hope is for those buses will be ready to run routes to and from the new Oconee campus of Tri-County Technical College. In its rural location on highway 11, the campus is not easy to reach unless you drive or have access to a ride. Few homes, if any, are within safe walking distance. And the hope is that with a free bus service, through Clemson Area Transit, Oconee’s Tech enrollment will increase.  There has been talk–and some degree expectation–that service in Oconee eventually will extend to Walhalla and Westminster, but Halbig says he has yet to receive a formal request from those cities.
