Budget time has arrived for Oconee County governments

The members of the Oconee County Council are to gather for special meeting and public hearings at 6 o’clock this evening in their chambers at the Pine Street administrative complex at Walhalla.  These hearings will cover new budgets for county government, for the public schools, and for the special tax district of the Keowee Fire Department.  The county fathers will welcome your comments or questions about spending projections over the next 12 months.  But they request the public to keep in mind that it’s wise to keep down the numbers of people gathered together to protect against further spread of COVID-19.  As such, in-person attendance at tonight’s hearings is limited to 20% of the stated maximum occupancy, which equates to 34 people including council members, other elected officials, and staff.  If you go, you are required to sit in designated seats, appropriately spaced.  The special meeting and hearings will be broadcast live on the county’s YouTube channel, which can be found thru the county website at Oconeesc.com. If you park near the council chambers, you can listen on FM 92.3.
