Brock cuts predecessor’s job

Rick Martin is no longer employed by Oconee County government. County Administrator Amanda Brock confirmed to 101.7/WGOG NEWS last evening that she informed Martin yesterday that, after months of evaluation, the county will eliminate his position of deputy administrator for public works. She indicated Martin’s position is not needed. Martin was a long-time director of the county quarry and, most recently, served as interim county administrator before the council decided to hire Brock. Martin’s discharge comes only a day after the release of a report that studied more than 100 employee pay raises that were awarded in and around the time Martin served as interim administrator. That report, however, exonerated Martin from wrongdoing, and that is a point confirmed by Brock when we spoke to her yesterday. Our attempt to reach Martin for comment was unsuccessful. But one of his supporters Edda Cammick, the former county councilwoman, said Martin did not deserve to lose his job.
