Broadus McGuffin

Seneca – James Broadus McGuffin, 91, husband of Jeanne Arnold McGuffin, 117 Shallowford Way, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.

 

   Born in Westminster, he was the son of the late Mann Luke McGuffin, Sr. and Kate Cox McGuffin. Mr. McGuffin was a graduate of the University of Alabama and Southern Methodist University where he received a Master’s in Nuclear Engineering.  There he was a member of the Suma Cum Laude and Nuclear Engineering Society. Afterwards, he headed the NERVA project to build a manned rocket engine to Mars in 1964 for Astro Nuclear affiliated with NASA. The engine now resides in Huntsville Space Museum. He later retired from Westinghouse Nuclear where he was a Nuclear Engineer and Project Manager.  Mr. McGuffin also was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during WWII and two tours with the Merchant Marines.

 

   Survivors include two sons, Mark Steven McGuffin (Tess) of Los Cruces, NM and James Matthew McGuffin of Seneca; daughters Kathy Anne McGuffin of Clemson and Kimberly Lynn McGuffin Brown of Knoxville, TN; brothers, Bruce McGuffin of Westminster and ML McGuffin, Jr. (Gwen) also of Westminster; Martha Anne Hall (Woodrow) of Seneca; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

 

   In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Ernest, Joe, Bobby, and Fred McGuffin; and sister, Mildred Nix.

 

   A graveside service will be held 2:30 pm, Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Oconee Memorial Park with full military rites. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm, prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.
