Breakthrough for Fair-Oak Youth Center

Agreement came out of a round-the-table meeting by municipal recreation directors for their teams to include games with Fair-Oak Youth Center teams. According to Julian Davis, facilitator for yesterday’s meeting, the games won’t be baseball and softball, but will include other sports. The meeting of the county’s recreation task force brought all sides together for an airing of the issues that have led to hurtful comments on social media. Fair-Oak’s Terry Swain had said her side was going into the meeting seeking answers and what she called equal treatment. As Seneca Director Rick Lacey put it, yesterday’s meeting was the municipal recreation directors first chance to give their side of the controversy that erupted over Fair-Oak’s inability to acquire a charter for South Carolina Dixie Youth baseball competition. Westminster Mayor Brian Ramey, the only municipal mayor in the meeting, said difficulty in reaching a solution to benefit children has been jeopardized by those who’ve used Facebook postings to belittle the cities. After yesterday’s meeting Davis, the county councilman who lives in Oakway, said chances for a resolution are enhanced if there’s an end to the unfavorable social media postings.
