“Box store” listening meeting is Monday night

An agenda has been set for a public meeting on Monday night in Walhalla, where city officials will accept comments and questions about their temporary moratorium that forbids additional box and discount stores from locating inside the city.  The topic became a matter of controversy when objections were raised about Dollar General’s attempts of recent months to find property on Main Street.  The city has arranged for Chip Bentley, deputy director of the region government service agency, South Carolina “A-COG”, to moderate Monday night’s meeting which will feature a presentation on zoning and a presentation by Main Street Walhalla.  The meeting will take place at the Performing Arts Center (the civic auditorium) and start at 6:30.
