Bond denied for fatal crash suspect

A magistrate within the last hour denied bond for the suspect in the crash last night that took the life of a woman asleep in the basement of her home. The ruling by Magistrate Erin McKinney followed a recitation of the facts gathered in what happened last night when, authorities believe, the defendant, El Asia Hassian Muhammed of Easley, ran a checkpoint and then sped down the Wells Highway, crossing four-lane 123, and crashing his vehicle into the home where victim Vanessa Leanne Neimeyer slept. As explained by Solicitor David Wagner, 19-year old Muhammed faces four charges—of which the most serious are failure to stop for a blue light and leaving the scene of an accident involving death. The defendant, speaking without the presence of an attorney, apologized to Neimeyer’s family and said when he ran from the accident scene he was unaware that anyone inside the house had died. Wagner told McKinney that the highway patrol believes the Muhammed vehicle was traveling at speeds in excess of 100 miles an hour after running through a checkpoint at Wells Highway and Owens Road.
