Body dumped in rural northern Oconee

A body found yesterday afternoon by the side of a rural northern Oconee highway is believed to be that of an unidentified Caucasian male, and his death is considered a homicide.  No identification accompanied the body.  County emergency services personnel while walking along the Wigington highway are credited with finding the body, as they were conducting traffic control in the vicinity of a disabled truck.  In a statement, the Oconee Sheriff’s Office said, “At this time, investigators believe foul play is involved and based upon preliminary investigation, it is believed that the body recovered is an adult male.”  Coroner Karl Addis said, “Based on observations at the scene, this death occurred somewhere else; his body was concealed and dumped down an embankment adjacent to the roadway.”  The Wigington Highway, which features a scenic overlook, connects highway 107 and the upper stretch of 130.  The coroner will look to an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
