Blood donor pleas go unheeded

The region’s supply of blood remains at or near critical low, and the Blood Connection says pleas to donate the past couple of months seem to have been ignored.  The situation is reaching potential danger, as the supplier of blood for local and area hospitals can’t  keep pace with the demand.  Donor turnout has significantly dropped as COVID restrictions are lifted and a time when more Americans have been vaccinated.  Hospitals face greater need for blood as previously deferred surgeries increases and trauma cases are at historic highs.  The Blood Connection stresses that blood can’t be manufactured – it must come from people willing to donate one hour of time for their fellow citizens.
