Bessie “Marie” Cater

Fair Play – Bessie “Marie” Turner Cater, 88, wife of the late, William Harold Cater, of 399 Leroy Road, passed away Sunday, January 24th, 2021 at Cottingham Hospice House.

 

Born in Pickens County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel Finley Turner. She retired from Food Services, serving in many plants, and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

 

She is survived by sons, Roger Dale Cater (June) of Piedmont, William Voyde Cater (Brenda) of Westminster; daughters, Vicki Cater Compton (Charles) and Barbara Joyce Cater both of Fair Play; brother, Grady Turner of Ore City, TX; sisters, Nell Brown, Peggy McPherson both of Fair Play, Reba Bowen of Greenville; twelve grandchildren; twenty four great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great grandchildren.

 

In addition to her parents, and husband William Harold Cater, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Darlene Cater; brothers, James and Clyde Turner; sister, Willie Mae Orr; granddaughter, Terri Cater; and grandson, Andrew Cheek.

 

A graveside service will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 28th, 2021 at Beaverdam Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 PM, prior to the service at Sandifer Funeral Home.
