Be safe on the roadways, especially around farm equipment

Everyone is invited to join the fun at the Foothills Agriculture Fair on the Sandifer Boulevard, but you can also use the experience this weekend to learn important tips when it comes to meeting farm equipment on many of the county’s small rural roads. Andy Whitten invites fair goers to take the time to visit the Farm Bureau trailer at the fair grounds to pick up some safety literature.  Whitten is an example of an Oconee farmer who, to make a living, must use the public roads to reach pastures to cut hay and gather crops.  He spoke to 101.7/WGOG NEWS this morning as he operated a large combine headed toward South Union.  Unfortunately, as Whitten has pointed out to county officials, much of today’s 21st century mobile farm machinery has grown larger than that which many rural roads were designed for when they were built 50 or more years ago.
