Barbara Mullen

“On October 23, 2023 Barbara Susan Mullen of Seneca, South Carolina passed from this life to the next, at home as she wanted, at the age of 74.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 55 years Robert Mullen, her brother David Lloyd, her sisters Colleen Arabian, Melanie Roberts, and her brother Thad Bernard.

She will be greatly missed by her children Melissa, Sean (Cynthia), Adam (Lori), and Scott Mullen.

Barbara especially loved her role as Omie to her grandchildren Devin, Philip, Jordan, Samuel, Spencer, Isaac, Max, Seth, Abbi, Jasmine, Grace, and great-grandchildren Gabriel, Xander, Ember, and Elijah.

Barbara was first and foremost a dedicated wife and mother, and grandmother, the heart of her family. She raised four children, and then at the age of 58 started all over in the role of mother to three of her grandchildren. She was a strong woman with an indomitable spirit.

She treasured her family. Meeting and getting to know her biological family as an adult was one of her great joys. She left behind many extended family and friends too numerous to list.

Barbara never stopped learning and growing as a person. She overcame many obstacles in her life with her physical health. She attended Endicott college as a young woman, took a job as an assistant tax assessor for many years so she could be nearby when her children came home from school. Then later went back to school and became a CNA and cared for many others, including her own mother and aunt in their time of need.

She didn’t hold back telling the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not. These words of encouragement, wisdom, and sometimes comfort, kept her family in line, and taught them to have strong values.
She was loved dearly and she will never be forgotten for her tenacity, intelligence, charm, grace, undying love and caring for everyone.

Barbara was a parishioner of St Andrew’s Catholic Church in Clemson South Carolina. Her Catholic faith was truly the center of who she was. She imparted her beliefs on her family, leaving them looking forward seeing her again in heaven.

She has left a permanent mark etched on everyone’s hearts and will be supremely missed until we meet again.

Until that joyful reunion, we remember the words she used to say each time upon parting — “Say your prayers and brush your teeth”.

A funeral mass will be held at Saint Andrews Catholic Church in Clemson, South Carolina on Thursday, November 9th, 2023 at 11:00 AM.
