Bagwell in the hunt for a builder

Tjay Bagwell, Walhalla councilman and real estate attorney, has preliminary approval to go forward with his 14-home development one block from Main Street.  Bagwell spoke but did not take part in the city council first reading vote to change the zoning classification of 103 S. Spring Street from core commercial to multi-family residential.  “I will start selling houses the day after I receive city council approval on the PUD (Planning Unit Development.”)  According to Bagwell, he will seek bids from three contractors to construct the houses, each of which will contain about one thousand square feet.  Councilwoman Jennifer Crawford said Bagwell’s intentions are exactly what she and other downtown revitalization supporters had hoped for.  Bagwell believes one of the selling points will be that homeowners will be able to walk to Main Street business from only one block away.  In the case of Walhalla Steak House, he said, the homeowner will never have to step off his sidewalk to reach that restaurant.
