Avoid drinking and driving

The best advice we can impart is to never drink and drive, especially on the party night of New Year’s Eve.  The motor club AAA Carolinas recommends all party goers have a plan before that first sip of alcohol by designating a sober driver or using a ride service.  That can help ensure your safety and that of everyone else on the road.  South Carolina public safety responders last year counted more than 1,200 collisions, 16 fatalities, and nearly 550 injuries over the period considered the New Year’s holiday weekend.  And, when you are driving, it’s a good idea to watch for possible tipsy pedestrians, liable to jaywalk or ignore traffic signals.  South Carolina state troopers are conducting their “Sober or Slammer” campaign in which they spotlight impaired drivers.
