Autonomous vehicles are focus of Clemson-led meeting

Researchers at the Clemson University Center for Automotive Research say the average operating cost of a taxi cab is $2.40 a mile. For an Uber, it’s $1.80. But for a connected or autonomous vehicle, they say, it just 60 cents. The idea of a driverless vehicle on the run freaks out some drivers, but all 33 major auto companies now have some form of an autonomous vehicle program in place. Representatives from some of those companies have come together in Greenville for a testing symposium that is taking place at ICAR–Clemson’s International Center for Automotive Research.
