Small car catches fires

A small car caught fire this morning on Torrington Road.  According to Walhalla Fire Department, the Nissan car fire occurred at 2:30 this morning and everyone in the car got out safely.  The car was burned beyond repair.  At this point, there’s no explanation as to why the fire started.

Monday’s South Carolina COVID-19 numbers

South Carolina DHEC Monday announced 785 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, along with 10 additional deaths.  One of the ten was that of an elderly Pickens County resident.  Sixteen of the additional cases reported yesterday are in Oconee County.  The numbers bring to 170,048 the total of South Carolina cases since March.  The toll includes 3,697 dead South Carolinians.  The […]

Looking for gold in a drainage pipe

Yells and screams brought Walhalla public safety responders to a drainage pipe yesterday afternoon on N. John Street.  There, according to Police Chief Brinson, a man had crawled inside the drainage pipe.  He was extricated safely by fire department personnel and declined medical treatment.  The police quoted the man as saying he was looking for gold.
