  A car theft last night from a home on Seneca’s Fairplay Street.  Reports indicate the thief led the police on a brief chase involving a 2005 Ford Escape that was in need of maintenance.   The police are said to have used stop sticks to effect the stop.  Further details not yet available from the police department.  

The regular first Tuesday meeting of Oconee County Council is set for 6 o’clock tomorrow night in the council chambers at the Pine Street administrative complex in Walhalla.  There are a number of big-ticket spending items on the agenda.  Including $1.2 million worth of self-contained breathing apparatuses for the fire fighters who are part of county Emergency Services.  The council […]

The railroad crossing on Main Street in Seneca will be closed for a few hours today while the railroad conducts routine maintenance at the location. Traffic is being rerouted onto Jordan Street, then EN 1st Street, US-123 and to Lindsay Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area to avoid congestion and delays.

A grass fire yesterday afternoon in Tanglewood near Seneca spread to a shed and consumed the small structure before fire fighters could stop the fire. The location was Post Oak Drive near the Shrine Club Road.

The state patrol says a 22-year old resident of Townville died over the weekend after a traffic accident on Interstate-185, four miles south of Greenville.  The deceased has been identified by the Greenville coroner’s office as Jonathan Phillip Panagakos of Ponderosa Point, Townville. The suspect in a Saturday night gunfire incident in Mountain Rest remains unaccounted for this morning, but he’s being sought by law enforcement.  The man being sought has been identified by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office as Zackary Edwin Sterling Fiskeaux.  He’s accused of fleeing a deputy sheriff by running into woods in the vicinity of the Cassidy Bridge Road and […]

A late night fire near the southern end of Oconee County.  A few minutes before midnight, fire fighters were sent to the vicinity of SC 24/the West-Oak Highway for a trailer fire at 512 Mark Lane, Townville.  No injuries were reported.
