Ferocious storm soaks Oconee

A rain gauge in Salem filled with a 1.75″ rain.  Pea-sized hail in the Richland Community.  Precipitation pelted the window of a meeting room at the county’s wastewater treatment plant.  The thunderstorm of late yesterday afternoon soaked Oconee County.  In one hour, we’ll get the measurement from Walhalla’s official weather observer.

Traffic detour

A section of U-S 123, the Toccoa Highway, is liable to remain impassable for a lengthy period — the result of the overturn of a poultry truck this morning in the vicinity of the Chauga River bridge.  Chickens are described as being everywhere at that accident scene.
