Attacks on two people draws 27-year prison term

Attacks by an angry husband on his wife and on a second man are sending the husband to prison—the result of guilty pleas this afternoon in the Oconee General Sessions Court. Jonathan William Duncan pleaded guilty to attempted murder, domestic violence second offense, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Assistant Solicitor Beth Blundy said Duncan “flipped” the morning after his wife had a relationship with another man. According to Blundy, Duncan choked and threw his wife against a wall and used a knife to slash the throat of a second man. The second man lost his eye as the result of a stab wound. The crimes occurred in June 2016. Since then, Duncan has sat in jail and will receive credit of 861 days awaiting trial. The defendant’s attorney, Gordon Senerius, said he believes Duncan had a “psychotic break fueled by methamphetamine,” but added, “There is no explanation for what happened.” A deputy sheriff, Corp. Minyard, said officers found the male victim bleeding so profusely that he could not speak and gasped for air.
