At the memorial this morning

A small, see-through fence surrounds the Walhalla Civil War memorial and cannon.  Signs attached to the fence read, “For your protection, please stay off the monument.”  That fence and signs are the doing of the city.  Brent Taylor, administrator, says, “We are concerned about people climbing on them, falling, and getting hurt.”  The cannon and memorial sit in a grass median on W. Main at Poplar—dividing the city’s main, 4-lane artery of traffic.  As for whether the curfew last night will be extended, Taylor said, “Yes, probably a week, but that will be brought up tonight.”  City Council is scheduled to hold its regular June meeting at 5:30 this evening at the Community Depot.
