At Pioneer Water, optimism gives way to reality

Pioneer Rural Water District closed out 2014 with optimism that perhaps spring time will allow for bids to hit the street for the district’s first treatment plant. But Pioneer’s outside engineering consultant, Chuck Joye, doused that optimism yesterday when he backtracked during a meeting of the Pioneer board of directors. “Progress is being made, but it is slow,” Joye said. Among the reasons for the slowdown: A topographic survey of the Golden Corner Commerce Park property on which to build the plant has not yet been finished. And although agreed to, an easement for a water draw from Lake Hartwell through the Anderson Regional Joint Water System has yet to be obtained. Joye added: “I’m disappointed where we are.”
