Arrests made in high school building site theft

Another instance of thievery has taken place at the construction site for the new Walhalla High School. This time, however, the law captured and arrested two suspects. The Sheriff’s Office has announced highway 59 resident Brandon Scott Wheeler, 35 years old, and Ruby Road resident Keith Alan Schlachter, 43, were jailed Friday on charges of grand larceny. Wheeler and Schlachter are accused of stealing rebar and other building materials. A deputy found a disabled trailer on the side of highway 11 near Dollar General that contained building materials. Among those materials, according to the Sheriff’s Office, was a packing slip with the name of the construction company, along with the name of the new school. A vehicle that officers believed belonged to the suspects was found in West Union.
