Arrest made in Toccoa, Georgia man’s death

Police in Georgia have made an arrest in the death of a University of Georgia student from Toccoa.  Knox Whiten, 21 years old and an earlier graduate of the Oconee Christian Academy, died when hit by a vehicle March 21 on Chase Street Street near the outer Athens loop.  Radio WNEG at Toccoa quotes the Athens-Clarke County police say saying Virkerria Steward, 28 years old, has been identified as the driver of a vehicle that struck Whiten.  Steward faces charges of first-degree homicide by vehicle, hit and run resulting in serious injury or death, false report of a crime, and driving with a suspended license.  She has been in police custody since March 21.
