Arrest Made in Itron Fire Case

A West Union man has been charged in connection with an early-morning fire that occurred in the restroom at Itron on Saturday. Anthony Jason Mathis, 33, has been charged with second-degree arson in the incident and warrants allege Mathis initiated the fire “willfully and maliciously.” He has since been released from the Oconee County Detention Center on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond.

Oconee County Emergency Services responded to the report of a fire at 4:40 am Saturday morning. The incident not only forced all of Itron’s employees to evacuate the facility at the time, but also caused damage to the walls, ceiling, and bathroom stall fixtures.
