Are growth restrictions what Oconee needs?

On one hand, to be regarded a fast-growing county in a state that still has pockets of poverty is seen as a good thing.  But when is fast growth a detriment? Growth issues were again front-and-center at the Oconee County Council.  When the council sat for its July meeting last night, the audience was filled with residents — many of whom warned of troubles that seemingly non-stop growth presents.  Chairman Durham acknowledged the concerns, but contended steps to limit or further regulate home-building are liable to be ineffective considering a message has been sent that life in the Golden Corner is seen elsewhere as a paradise.  Durham’s cautionary remarks are being re-played today over 101.7/WGOG airwaves.
