Appeal rejected, way cleared for demoliton

The way was cleared last night at City Hall to demolish an old Walhalla house condemned by the code officer as dilapidated and unsafe. After seeing photographs and a presentation by code officer Daniel Fletcher, the city council rejected an appeal for leniency from the owner of the S. Poplar Street vacant structure The owner, Nanette Alexander, did not appear for the hearing. However, in an email to Fletcher, Alexander appealed for leniency and time to clean up and make repairs in the hopes of selling to someone else to remodel or restore. She said it was a farmhouse surrounded by an orchard before electricity, according to a plat she has seen.
