Anti-drug program returns to Oconee

An anti-drug program that had its roots in Los Angeles has made a return to Oconee County, after an absence of 17 years.  Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw has seen to it that “DARE”—Drug Abuse Resistance Education—is being taught again in county elementary schools.  The program is primarily targeted to fifth graders.  It is not confined to spreading the message against illegal drugs.  It helps students with other issues and problems, and Crenshaw hopes “DARE” will be part of the curriculum in the middle and high schools.  Participating in the program this past semester were fifth graders the following elementary schools:  James Brown, Tamassee-Salem, Northside, Blue Ridge, Westminster and Orchard Park.
