Annual Veterans’ Day parade a COVID casualty

The Oconee Veterans Council has decided there will be no Veterans Day parade next week on the annual holiday.  Jerry Dyar, director of county affairs and spokesman for the veterans council, says it’s regrettable there will be no parade to draw attention to what veterans have done for the country, but the cancellation is necessary to help avoid exposing vets to the spread  COVID-19.  The virus was the identical reason for the cancellation of the annual Memorial Day event.  Dyar, however, says there are other ways, including a kind word, to show appreciation to veterans.
