Having gained access to Drug Enforcement Administration reports, the Washington Post this week says it has been able to track the path of every pain pill in the country. Thru its website the newspaper has made public the path of the pills from manufacturers to the drug stores. The data cover the years 2006-2012. For Oconee County, the numbers show more than 40 thousand prescription pain pills. That breaks down to 79.4 pills for every Oconeean. According to the Post, the proliferation of oxycodone and hydrocodone pills have fueled an opioid epidemic have fueled that has taken 100 thousand lives.
