All testimony completed

Both sides have finished questioning witnesses, and a 2016 Walhalla car accident dispute is headed to an Oconee jury—most likely some time tomorrow. Judge Cooper in the Common Pleas Court this afternoon allowed the jury to go home for the night, with the instructions that they are to return for duty at 9:30 in the morning. At that time, they are to hear the attorneys’ final arguments and receive the judge’s charge on the law. Then, the jury is to adjourn to their private room to deliberate a verdict. This was day three of the trial of Mahlon Meredith v. Pickens County. In August 2016 cars driven by Meredith and a Pickens deputy collided at Walhalla’s 4-way stop intersection of S. Church and S. Broad streets. During plaintiff’s side testimony, the jury was told about back pain that Meredith has suffered both before and after the accident. Among defense witness testimony today, the jury was told by a second Pickens sheriff’s officer that after the accident that Meredith had told him that he was not injured.
