Afghani refugees headed for Clemson

As many as 60 Afghanistan refugees will try to transition to new lives in Clemson, as part of a program of the Lutheran Services of the Carolinas.  These displaced Afghanis are considered to have been friendly to the U-S government, but are no longer considered safe in their native country.  Mayor Robert Halfacre made this statement this morning:  “We are under the impression Lutheran Services are also sending refugees to live in Greenville as well.  Right now we are making sure we have what we need in place to be able to communicate with the refugees and help them get established in the community.”  Lutheran Services attempts to arrange housing, facilitate access to social services and public benefits, arrange health screenings and access to health care, assist with school enrollment, among other services.
