Addressing the epidemic of substance disorders

Oconee County is expected to look to the federal government for a six-figure grant to further organize the county effort to combat the scourge of substance abuse. An application for a grant of up to $600 thousand occupies a big part of the agenda for the Tuesday night, May 19 county council meeting. The council is being told of the hopes of the sheriff’s office and the center for Oconee Addiction Recovery and Solutions to develop a local response to the abuse of opioids, stimulants and other substances. Their target is those who are at risk of overdosing along with alternative-to-incarceration services to those suffering from disorders. The Oconee Addiction Recovery and Solutions Center opened in March and has been approved to house 20 in-patient clients.
