A vote taken follows an executive session

Westminster and Pioneer Rural Water apparently have a deal, though it’s short term. Mayor Brian Ramey says, after a closed-door meeting last night, the city approved a one-month extension for Westminster to wholesale water to the Pioneer Rural Water District. The extension is seen as a way to supplement the Oconee-Anderson water distributor with an adequate supply until the state gives a green light to the operation of the new treatment plant off highway 59. Terry Pruitt, Pioneer manager, said:  “It’s helpful for us to be able to ramp up the plant operations to ensure everything is working as planned and not having to rely on just one source of water.  I think it’s beneficial to Westminster as well having additional revenue from the water sales.”  Until the new Pioneer plant is placed into operation, Pioneer derives it water supply thru wholesale contracts with both Westminster and the city of Seneca.
