A further change in meeting agendas

A change affecting the agendas of Oconee County Council meetings is spreading to the agendas of other county bodies—the various boards and commissions.  In a recent change at the county council level, council members may no longer make extemporaneous comments under the heading of “New” and “Old Business.”  Instead, those comments are now reserved for the agenda spot for council member comments. David Root, county attorney, announced at this week’s planning commission meeting that transparency and the state’s Freedom of Information Act is the basis to ensure that no meeting discussions take place on subjects for which advanced notice is not given by meeting agendas.
