A fourth declaration for Walhalla mayor

A fourth Walhallan said today he will run for city mayor in the November 5 election. If he wins, it’ll make for a political comeback. The latest of four men to declare intent is Randy Chastain, who stepped away from city politics eight years ago. Prior to that, he served as mayor, preceded by terms on the city council. In recent years, Walhalla has changed, but Chastain says there’s need for Walhalla to pay attention to the basics—the kinds of services that taxpayers count on. Businessman Chastain says he believes there’s a lot of information city leaders haven’t shared with the public in recent years, and he wants to reveal that. Three other Walhalla city leaders have their radar set on the mayor’s office: Tjay Bagwell, Dennis Owens, and the incumbent Danny Edwards. Chastain is not daunted that as many as four names could appear on the ballot. Let the voters decide is Chastain’s position. Walhalla shares with three other Oconee municipalities an official candidate qualifying period between August 16 and 26.
