A disturbing trend to some Lake Keowee homeowners

Commercially-zoned property in front of one Lake Keowee home development is disconcerting to some of the residents there, and one let her feelings be known during a meeting yesterday of the Oconee Planning Commission. Melinda Jenkins is a new resident of Craggmore Pointe near SC 130/the Stamp Creek Road. She and others in her neighborhood were attracted by the fact that her’s is not a gated community, nor is it a development that requires no homeowner fees. But they still feel vulnerable, after learning that what they was unbuildable property toward the highway has been zoned for commercial development. Jenkins said her intent in attending and speaking at last night’s meeting was to touch base with the planning commission, which is the body where zoning changes are originated. “We want to avoid a gate,” she said. Two planning commissioners (Frankie Pearson and Andy Gramling) responded to her comments by saying they wished that more Oconeeans would speak their minds and take the time to attend the meetings. Gramlin pointed out that only Jenkins and Jerry Barnett took that opportunity last night.
