A discrimination removed against Black homeowners

A Republican U-S senator from South Carolina, Tim Scott, says he and a Democratic colleague from Georgia were able to direct “FEMA” away from policies that discriminated against Black homeowners which has helped tens of thousands of people get the help they need after natural disasters.  Scott says he and Georgia’s Jon Ossoff last fall successfully lobbied “FEMA” to change its disaster relief policies that required disaster victims to present a clear title to property. A large numbers of Black-owned land in the South is passed down informally, rather than through deeds and wills.  The Washington Post has reported that there’s no legal basis for disaster survivors to provide incontrovertible proof of home ownership.  The practice of Black-owned land being passed down informally originated during the period of segregation when Blacks were excluded from the legal system.  “For years I have worked to protect heirs property owners across South Carolina and the country,” said Senator Scott.
