A 1,000′ climb awaits Walhalla’s Wayne Garland

On his trek north to the end of the Appalachian Trail, Walhalla’s Wayne Garland has made it nearly 50 miles inside the Vermont line.  When he spoke to him by phone this afternoon, 74-year old Garland was about to start a 1,000′ climb in the vicinity of Manchester, Vermont.  The small town is considered a gateway to the Green Mountains.  Garland thinks that by the July 4 weekend he’ll have reached the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
