Issue for Fair Play: What becomes of former school property
A former public school building in Fair Play remains in a continuing state of disrepair. What happens to the old building and property is of great interest to many including the Fair-Oak Youth Center–the organization responsible for organized recreation programs in Oakway and Fair Play. Fair-Oak Youth Center owns the building that once was a public school. The building and property sit in the heart of Fair Play village and are seen as key to how a community bisected by I-85 develops in the future. Other parties following what happens include the community’s volunteer fire department, which is looking to re-locate. Many Fair Play residents take an interest, also, in preserving a stone wall that separates the property from the highway. 101.7/WGOG NEWS spoke last week to Chad Overholt and Parker Stuart of the board of Fair-Oak Youth Center. They would like at least part of the property to expand recreation facilities. Their comments are being aired today on WGOG NEWS casts.
