Restore and replace South Carolina bridges

A planning grant has come through, and it’s going to mean $1.7 million to pay for the early phases of project development for six bridges on I-85 between South Carolina and Georgia.  According to the U-S Department of Transportation announcement, the grant goes to the South Carolina DOT through the competitive Bridge Investment Program of the Federal Highway Administration, created by President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.  The $1.7 million pays for a Planning and Environmental Linkages study to evaluate the replacement needs for six rural bridges in fair or poor condition on the 85 corridor, in partnership with the Georgia DOT.  Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt  says, “The planning grant announced….will help South Carolina prepare critical bridge projects for restoration or replacement before they fall into a state of disrepair.  By making historic investments in bridge projects that serve as a vital transportation link in communities nationwide, the Biden-Harris administration is supporting local economies, strengthening supply chains, and promoting resilience and safety in transportation.”
